Heritage Drugs Chronic Pain

Examples of conditions that cause chronic pain are back problems, TMJ (transmandibular joint disorder or disease), injuries due to accidents or repetitive movements used in job or sport related activities, unsuccessful surgeries or injuries or conditions that simply can't be treated for one reason or other.

Compounding enables a pharmacist to formulate a blend of the ingredients necessary to ease or eliminate a patient's chronic problems with his or her input and that of his or her physician. Because a compounded formula can be adjusted, changes can be made until relief is achieved unlike standard medications which come in fixed doses. That just one of the many advantages to using compounding for pain treatment.

Compounding enables a pharmacist to formulate a blend of the ingredients necessary to ease a patient's chronic problems with his or her input and that of his or her physician. Depending on the patient’s reaction, the compounded formula can be adjusted until relief is achieved.

Compounding is also used to provide alternatives. For instance, a person with chronic pain is usually prescribed tablets or capsules to be swallowed. These can very often be replaced by a transdermal gel to be applied directly to the affected area, especially to the trigger point of the pain which can usually be found by applying pressure to the pain site and the surrounding areas. The medication goes through the skin eliminating stomach irritation and other unwanted side effects of oral medication, such bas the deleterious and habit-forming effects of narcotics on the brain.
