B.Sc., R.Ph., DHPh., pharmacist

Howard Alter is a man of many talents and interests. Well respected in the pharmacy community, Howard has practiced community pharmacy in Canada and the U.S. since 1972. He is a graduate of McGill University and the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Montreal. He is licensed to practice in Canada and in the United States and also has a diploma from The British Institute of Homeopathy. He has trained with the American College of Apothecaries and PCCA (Professional Compounding Centers of America) as a Compounding Pharmacist. He is a member of the IACP (International Association of Compounding Pharmacists), the APhA (American Pharmacists Association), the CPhA (Canadian Pharmacists Association) and the A4M (American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine).

He is as respected in the canine world, where he is "owned and loved" by no less than 8 Newfoundlands, a breed for which he has a special affinity. Howard has trained four obedience trial champions. He has been a breeder and trainer of Newfoundlands since 1979. His love for the breed extends to the ring where Howard is a C.K.C. licensed obedience trial judge. He makes frequent trips to both Canada and the U.S. in the capacity of both a competitor and a judge.

It was his love for dogs and their plight as victims of arthritis and dysplasia that first led him on a search for an all natural solution. When he discovered K9 REBOUND, he knew he had found the answer. He soon realized that remedy was as effective in humans who suffer from arthritis and began selling Rx REBOUND as a safe, all-natural alternative to NSAIDS.

Howard Alter currently works out of his apothecary, Heritage Drugs, in Stowe, Vermont, and attends various seminars on health and wellness issues.

Encouraged by the effectiveness of supplements, Howard wanted to broaden his scope: he learned about Functional Medicine and its focus on treating patients holistically rather than putting band-aids on the symptoms of specific health problems. He is a graduate of the Applied Clinical Practice Course of the Institute of Functional Medicine, based in Seattle, Washington. Working in concert with patients and their doctors, he can offer patients the many benefits available through the Functional approach. He uses his knowledge of pharmacy, professional compounding and the Functional approach to help treat chronic diseased states that have persisted despite previous interventions. The combined use of functional and traditional medicine helps to maximize outcomes.

The choice of treatment will be determined by the patient's complaints, genetic predispositions, medical history and current and previous lifestyles. We cannot change our genes, but with proper knowledge we can help prevent the expression of those genes that lead to chronic illnesses. This may involve the use of specifically targeted, high-quality, bio-available supplements, hormonal balance with compounded bio-identical hormones, stress control and other lifestyle changes.
